    Office Profile

The Washington office of McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP traces its roots to 1939, when President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Attorney General returned to private law practice to form his own firm in Washington. Since that time, our firm’s Washington office has performed ground-breaking work for clients in the nation’s capital. On matters ranging from administrative and regulatory law to litigation to public policy, the Washington office of McKenna Long & Aldridge helps clients manage the intersection of government and business.

Key practices in the Washington office include:

The first Government Contracts law practice in the nation originated in the firm’s Washington office. Under the leadership of legendary partner Gil Cuneo, the discipline of government contracts law emerged as a major area in the legal field. Today, our government contracts practice remains the largest and most comprehensive practice of its kind in the country and serves clients in virtually every area of government contracting, including information technology, aerospace and defense systems, homeland security and biodefense, and GSA contracting.

A core strength of our firm and the Washington office is our Litigation practice, featuring more than 50 practitioners in the nation’s capital alone. The Washington-based litigation team maintains key practice concentrations in the areas of regulatory and appellate law, product liability and toxic torts, white collar criminal defense, and general commercial and employment law. Our white collar practice was recently bolstered with the additions of two new partners: Josh Hochberg, former Chief of the Fraud Section at the Department of Justice and John Horan, former Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.

In our firm’s continuing mission to help clients navigate the intersection between industry and government, the Washington office has continued to grow its Public Policy and Regulatory Affairs practice with practitioners and attorneys with noteworthy experience in the halls of government. Building on a practice featuring a former U.S. ambassador to Canada, a former U.S. representative, chief aides to members of Congress, top officials in U.S. government agencies, former Assistant Secretary of Defense; Joe Dowley, former chief counsel to the Ways and Means Committee; and a former Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for biodefense programs.

Our Washington office’s Intellectual Property and Technology practice features a rapidly growing team of more than 30 practitioners. This team, many of whom hold advanced degrees in key technology areas, applies a combination of legal knowledge, technical expertise and business acumen to help clients leverage the rapid changes in the IP marketplace. Our IP practice is also international in scope, and has extensive experience representing and litigating on behalf of domestic and international clients in all aspects of IP protection and licensing in the U.S. and abroad. We serve clients in an array of leading industries, from information technology to aerospace and consumer products.

In representation in the courtroom and before regulatory agencies, our Environmental practice remains a leader in its field. In the pesticides and chemicals field our firm features the oldest, largest, and most diversified regulatory and litigation practice in the nation and internationally. This practice also provides strategic regulatory and public policy counseling and litigation support to clients in every area of environmental law.
